Headteacher's welcome

Mr S C James

Dear Parent(s) / Carer(s)

Welcome to our website which aims to give you a flavour of the provision at Afon Tâf High School.

Since my arrival in 2017 I have had both the privilege and immense pleasure of leading Afon Tâf and helping our students excel across a broad range of disciplines.
Students are exposed to a wealth of opportunities both within and beyond the classroom in a school that places a strong emphasis on the development of
well-rounded individuals of whom the school and parents can feel justifiably proud.
I am fortunate to be supported by a first class team of staff and strong governors who expect only the very best for their students.

Afon Tâf has a reputation for excellent pastoral care, support and guidance.
From the moment they arrive in Year 7, our students are expected to achieve in a happy, caring and supportive environment.

Afon Tâf is very proud to have 21st Century facilities to educate our students.
The new building houses modern classrooms equipped with the latest educational technology and fantastic sports facilities which mean that every pupil can reach their potential.

Regardless of their ability, students are set challenging and ambitious targets for their academic progress. We work closely in partnership with parents and believe that this relationship is crucial to the success of our students.

Afon Tâf derives pride from being a community school, with strong and growing links with local business and community organisations. Well-established links with local primary schools allow students to gain first hand experiences of secondary school life from Year 5 onwards. An extensive transition programme allows students to make a smooth and seamless move from primary to secondary school.

Classroom learning is enhanced by school clubs, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and local, national and international visits. Recent visits have included trips to New York, skiing in America, STEM trips to Munich and vists to the WW1 war graves.

If you are considering sending your child to Afon Tâf or would like to find out more, please do not hesitate to contact the school to arrange a visit.

Yours sincerely

Mr S James
