WJEC Level 1/2 Award in Constructing the Built Environment
This course offers a learning experience that focuses on applied learning, i.e. acquiring and applying knowledge, skills and understanding through purposeful tasks set in sector or subject contexts that have many of the characteristics of real work. The qualification provides learners with a broad appreciation of work in construction and the built environment giving a broad introduction to the different trades involved in the sector and the types of career opportunities available. This course offers pupils wider opportunities for progression into further education, employment or training.
The award is made up of three units, each having an applied purpose which acts as a focus encouraging learners to consider how the use and application of their knowledge, understanding and skills impacts on individuals, employers, society and environment.
The three units are set out as follows:
Unit 1: Safety and security in construction (exam taken during Year 10
Unit 2: Practical construction skills
Unit 3: Planning construction projects
